One Small Step

I obviously don't care WHAT I look like on outings like this. Good thing!

Looking Forward, or, An Ohio Evening

I just made plans with my dear friend eb to go to Ohio over Labor Day. She's offered many invitations over the years, but in the past I've demurred with excuses of work, penury, or school. Those excuses still exist (work and school are now combined, since I work at a school), but I'm going to say "What the heck" and do it anyway. I'm feeling happy about having another fun trip to look forward to. Also, buying a ticket to Ohio will put me even closer to another Southwest award ticket, which I promise will be used to go to Texas.

The trip agenda includes eb's high school reunion, which should be infinitely less painful than my own reunion, which is also this summer (Mom, are you certain you already threw away my invite?). Two of eb's siblings are getting married (not to each other, of course!) in August and will have an open house in Ohio that weekend, we'll drive through Amish Country, and visit some of the Ohio LDS historical sites like the John Johnson home. Maybe I can even wrangle a meet-up with the original sources of my aunthood and their younger sister, who are just a hop, skip, and a jump from Ohio.

On an unrelated topic, will someone please tell me why I'm surfing the Internet at 10:30 pm instead of doing something more useful, such as choosing tomorrow's clothes, preparing for tomorrow's 8am class, or getting some much needed sleep?

New Look

What do you think about the new look? It's fun to have a piece of my life I can change up when I want without too much trouble or impact. I won't tell you, however, how many hours it took me to modify the colors in the new Blogger template (far more many than it should have).

If I knew anything about Photoshop, I would tidy up my self portrait. Alas, I'm not the expert some people are.

My Body is in TN...

but my mind is in Washington, along with my friends and all the other librarians at the American Library Association conference. I can so see myself there--riding the Metro, going to the Library of Congress Reading Room open house, attending the World Premiere of The Hollywood Librarian: Librarians in Cinema and Society, listening to Nancy Pearl, walking around the National World War II Memorial...

On the Horizon

Sat April 28

I foolishly signed up to take cupcakes at the beginning of a church talent show and to clean up at the end. So, unless I can find something to do in between, I'll be at the talent show Saturday night. Why do I have to be such an over-achiever?

Fri May 4

Fly to Dallas in the evening in order to get my hair cut (thank goodness) and prepare for the move (oh dear).

Sat May 5 - Thurs May 10

Pack, load, move, and unload.

Sat May 12

Drive to Ooltewah to hang out with Mary's fam. Yay!

Wed May 16

Fly to SLC (via Denver, the plane leaves Nashville at 6:05 am) to stay with my wonderful aunt and to attend the Utah Library Association Conference in Provo. Yes, I know it's weird, but why the heck not? The agenda includes attending the conference Thurs and Fri, hanging out with auntie and two cousins, hitting the BYU Bookstore, stopping in at the LDS Museum of Church History and Art, and paying a professional visit to the Harold B. Lee Library at BYU, assuming I get the nerve to make contact with someone who will give me the $0.50 tour.

Sun May 20

Arrive back in Nashville at 11:35 pm, retrieve my car, and drive home.
