Futility

Hiding in bed all day to avoid the demons doesn't work. They're always ready and waiting, no matter how long it takes you to emerge.

Under Construction

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.”

Backsliding

I've done relatively well at curbing my nocturnal tendencies over the last couple of months. It always seems to take only one night, however (usually a Friday), to undo weeks of good behavior. Hence, it's 3:15 a.m. and I'm wide awake.

I have a feeling Monday is going to be particularly difficult this week.

Contradiction

I'm wearing new slacks to work today; none of my chinos fit any more because I've lost weight (20+ pounds from the high of the past five years).

So I celebrated with a Sonic hot dog for lunch!

Tomorrow is a New Day

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow." - Mary Anne Radmacher

Advice Concerning Another Immutable Law

If you feel prompted to taste your drink before leaving the drive through window, you should also check your sandwich order. That new guy at Sonic may be very polite, but he probably didn't catch on when you said "junior burrito, egg ONLY."

Immutable Law

In a night of tossing, turning, and frequent awakenings, the insomniac will fall into restful sleep within 45 minutes of the morning alarm sounding.
