More Finished Objects

If I were a patient on a pediatric oncology ward, I'm not sure either of these pillowcases would cheer me up much!

The red and blue cases are perhaps more suitable for children, though the plaid fabric is a bit odd--kind of a lightweight duck cloth. It must have been stored for a long time, because it smells a bit musty, even after laundering.

Needless to say, the only fabric I chose for the above items was the blue bits. I plan to make two more cases, however, from slightly cheerier fabric.

Middle of the Night Question

Why am I so unenergetic even in sleeplessness? I'm just insomniac enough to play with the phone or toss and turn in bed, but not insomniac enough to do something productive, like fold the laundry or wash some dishes.

It Can be Done

I actually finished a knitting project, perhaps the second or third in my entire life!

First World Problem

I, who rarely go to the movies, now want to see two movies that will be gone by Friday, and my week was just complicated when I offered to give someone rides to work in the evenings.

Age Old Question

Do I stay up and clean, or plan to get up early in the morning instead?

A Quote

If you overturn a very large, very wet stone you are going to find a lot of slugs underneath,  plus a few creeping things with too many legs that you weren't prepared for.

Holiday's End

Only among true friends can I admit that I've basically been on holiday since Dec 23, even though I went back to work Jan 2.

Today, I played the "female complaint" card at lunch time (just an unnamed malady to my coworkers) and spent the rest of the day in bed with a hot pad.

Fortunately, I was well enough to read a book start to finish while I was at it. Since reading in bed all day is my true ambition for any holiday, I suppose I will now be brave and declare the hols officially over. Better late than never, right?

Plain as the Nose...

I've been missing my work nametag for a couple of months. Admittedly, I never searched for it with much diligence.

Today, I realized it was actually in its designated spot all along. How on earth did I not see it?!

Overkill

Pharmaceuticals, essential oils, electric blanket, noise machine--I'm determined to SLEEP tonight.

Thank You, Mr. President

I dreamed Barack Obama was delivering the mail. I knew he probably had a package for me, and wondered if I should help him out by meeting him at the box. After all, he is the President.

I woke up then, so who knows what happened next!

Will She or Won't She?

I'm considering the unprecedented move of going to the movies tonight. Yes, you read that right: Me. Friday night. A movie.

If the world as we know it ends tonight at 7:20 pm CST, you'll know why.

The Good Ideas are Taken

A few nights ago I was contemplating my ongoing life project (well, one of them) and decided to donate all the P.D. James books I've been saving in case I want to reread them. In my defense, I have reread several titles more than once, so the idea is not out of the realm of possibility. I was excited to think that I had so easily decided on a positive step.

So, imagine my dismay this morning when I looked at the bookshelves and realized I gave away those books last year. I now remember I did some cookbook weeding at the same time. So I'm not sure where this leaves me. Could Nancy possibly be next on the chopping block?

Truth

There's no doubt that one of Satan's most effective methods is co-opting a tool that can be used for good and twisting the direction just enough that using the tool takes one to a far different place than originally intended.

Follow these two lines far enough, and see where each line takes you, even though they start from a common point.

This video illustrates the point perfectly. Yes, it's fairly easy to see how technology plays a role in ruinous evils like pornography and infidelity. But how about its role in things like loneliness and social isolation, which are just as damaging, though much slower-acting, than the "big" evils?

Whew

I had to dress up for work today. No cords and long sleeve t-shirt for me.

Probably the shortest bio in the whole program.

How much can I get for an MTSU commemorative letter opener on the open market?

Putting Up a Defense

My "Post Vacation Forcefield" isn't very strong today. There's really nothing to make it a "bad" day--I'm just a bit down in the mouth.

So I've pulled out nearly all the stops--"emotional rescue" blend in the diffuser, sound machine, Ralph Vaughan Williams playing in the background--everything except chocolate. Maybe all of that will do the trick?

The New Fad

Today there are two other solitary women near me on the beach. One is a bit older than I, and both are a bit plumper.

I'm enjoying myself, but hope this isn't a vision of my future.

ps: I already moved once to escape a loud talker, but it doesn't seem to have been far enough.
